If you think turkey is bland, think again! By far the best turkey we have ever eaten (and there's been a few in our middle aged lives), sourced from Woodlands Farm in Boston. These turkeys are raised in a small flock in generous paddocks with osiers and fruit trees for shelter and insects. They are mostly bred on the farm and incubated by broody hen turkeys. The chicks are grown on in small groups to reduce stress and the risk of disease. The birds have access to the paddocks at all times, except at night when they prefer to perch indoors. Woodlands Farm take special care to ensure that the slaughtering should be carried out humanely so sooner than transport the birds to the abattoir, which can be stressful, the birds are killed out of sight of each other on their home territory. The concern is to provide the birds with dignity in death as well as in life. To order ask for as many kilos as you need (roughly 1 kilo = 2lbs), we will get as close as we can to it but to keep our credit card dealings simple we will undersupply rather than oversupply, so err on the side of generous.
